[Of course Wash was freaking out on the inside but the ex-Freelancer managed to compose himself to such an extent that most of that internal anxiety was masked. He had a woeful abundance of experience at having to mask his true feelings thanks to his long and protracted battle with the likes of Leonard Church and Project Freelancer.

But what he was experiencing right now was based more in the concern of what the future held instead of the past. Could he fight his own knee-jerk reactions to an Alien standing right there in front of him considering he’d fought their kind to bloody completion during the war? Junior was an innocent, had absolutely nothing to do with the sins of his people and then there was the fact that technically he was still technically half-human.

And that was about the time his brain always started to short-circuit because what the fuck. How did that even….nope, he didn’t want to dwell on the how or why in that matter. But more than that, he was more worried about what Junior would think of him. If Tucker’s son hated him or viewed him as competition for his father’s affections then that might very well shatter the tenuous relationship they had.

That wasn’t even taking into account what might happen if the people of Chorus saw an alien roaming around their planet. It was just one more piece in an already complicated and anxiety-fraught problem that filled Wash with dread.

But when Tucker turned to him with that mile-wide smile on his face, he couldn’t find it in himself to ruin any of his enjoyment with the realities and fears facing them.]
As ready as I’ll ever be?
